Fall Classic Final Game Attracts Over 50 Million Viewers Across the US, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The exciting extra-inning contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a total 51M viewers in the US, Canadian, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball reported this is the highest-rated World Series finale since the 1991 edition contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday memorable game secured 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also is the most-watched World Series game since the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent improvement over the last finale between the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked 4th, the fourth game was seventh, Game 5 came in eighth, and the third game finished in 13th position.

Global Audience Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game recorded 11.6 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English broadcast in Canada since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest started at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – drew 13.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game series recorded 15.71 million viewers on Fox, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen audience growth for two straight years.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total US average was over 16 million. The total World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09M watchers, an eight percent rise over last year and Fox’s best playoff ratings after the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen different languages.
